The Best Baby Shower

I have moments sometimes that remind me how incredibly lucky I am. Different moments and different reasons, but from time to time, I’m slapped in the face with overwhelming gratitude for the life I’ve been given and the people who contribute to it. My baby shower was one of those moments.

I looked around the room at one point and and couldn’t stop the tears from welling up in my eyes. My mom, my sister and niece were there, of course. I saw my best friend from kindergarten, her sister, her mother, and both of her grandmothers (both of whom I’ve called “Mamaw” for thirty years, and have adopted since I have no living grandparents of my own). I saw my cousins Laura and Alisa, who have been my go-to rocks. And I saw my newer friends, my friends that, while I haven’t known them for decades, have become such joyful parts of my life. I’m so thankful for Dale, not only for him, but for the people he brought into my life when we started dating.

Needless to say, my usually-strong emotions have gotten even more haywire.

Our friend Anna (who is also an incredibly talented photographer, and who will be taking birth photos for us) was kind enough to snap some pictures for us. I loved all of the decorations my friends put together … a Team Green theme with the prettiest flowers and food (including vegan treats for me!).

One of my favorite moments from the baby shower had to be when I opened Mamaw Lulu’s gift. She is one of my adopted Mamaws I mentioned earlier, and she made Dilly a baby blanket. I cried. A lot. A lot, a lot. Again, I feel so grateful to be adopted into families with such incredible people.

Another favorite part of the shower was Ellie’s presence (my fifteen year old stepdaughter). She made a onesie for Dilly that featured a picture of her and Cece and said “I Love My Sisters.” Indeed, Dilly will be over the moon for you, Elizabeth Claire, and I am too. You’re the best bonus kid I could ever ask for, and even if you weren’t my kid, I’d want you to be my friend.

I’m so overwhelmingly thankful for all of these women, who took time out of their own busy lives to shower me, Dale, and Dilly with all the love we could ever hope for. We’re only four and a half weeks from my due date, and each day gets more and more exciting. We’re ready for you now, Dilly. Everyone can’t wait to meet you!
